Summer Tournaments:
Boys First Tournament went smoothly. Some concession stand workers brought in their own alcoholic beverages and were drinking while working. Parents are asked to abide by the no carry in policy and also to drink responsibly especially while working and representing Pulaski and the PYO.
Girls Tournament also went smoothly despite the rain. 3 teams greatly abused the carry in policy and have been put on notice that they may not be invited back. Don B. has been informed. Only 1 parent didn’t show at the concession stand. Excellent response by the parents in concessions and in helping with the diamonds between games. One umpire was identified that was trash talking teams behind the plate. He will be put on notice to change his behavior or will not be invited back. T-shirt vendor had good sales at the girl’s tournament but only ½ of the teams sent in their rosters, which limited sales potential. Only 1 or 2 Pulaski teams sent in their rosters. PYO receives 17% of the sales so we need to encourage the roster submittal – even if the final roster is not known until tournament weekend. We need to consider changing the registration policy. Recommendation is: Special schedule requests will be taken with registration, after that no schedule changes will be made. The schedule changed up to the day before the games began due to team conflicts.
The Legion thanks the Babe Ruth parents for running the Legion stand during their games and for the PYO sharing supplies as things ran out.
It was emphasized again, that it is very important to hold coaches and parents meetings for the summer sports. The uniform policy needs to be clearly communicated to the parents and the coaches need to understand their responsibility in the player’s use of the uniforms and getting them back in a timely fashion.
A groomer for the diamonds was discussed. Ashw. had a John Deere unit that was very efficient in prepping the diamonds. Gary P. got prices on the units - $7500 for a used unit or $10000 for a new unit. Gator rental costs us $400 per year and PGSA pays another $400. Jill Davis recommended a small drag for use behind the gator as a lower cost alternative. She will bring information for review.
Field upgrades were also discussed. A hose to water the fields would be helpful. PYO could purchase the hose and try to get the village to supply the piping. Pat Mc Dermid to contact the village. Batting cage was also discussed. Members saw many simple designs in parks throughout the area this summer. Al Halla will have Fortress Fence work up a simpler design without a building and full fences. Bleachers were discussed. The Splans will get the option information from Kevin S. to bring to the PYO for consideration.
Basketball – Coaches submitted their names for head coach consideration. Votes if needed will be taken by the board in September.
