Basketball:
Pulaski Tournaments Girls and 3rd Boys Jan. 10-11. Boys 4-8 Jan. 17-18. Gyms are reserved. Initial coaches meeting was held on Oct.1 before the PYO meeting.
Discussion was held on limiting the number of tournaments that PYO supports for the basketball teams. This is due to the increasing number of teams and the inability to attract enough teams to our tournament to offset the cost of sending ours to tournaments. A proposal was made to bring before the membership in October. Each grade would be sponsored at the same number of tournaments as their grade (3rd – 3 per team, 4th – 4 per team, etc.) Teams could attend additional tournaments during the regular PYO season (Nov. – April) at parent expense. This was left as a recommendation and will be considered for the bylaws in February.
Discussion was held on making an effort to work closely with the PBA program and the schools to create a Pulaski Basketball system. PYO coaches for the younger grades were strongly encouraged to help out at PBA when possible to learn the standard drills and terminology. The PYO coaches for the older grades were strongly encouraged to communicate with the high school coaches, and were welcomed to arrange to come to watch practices, etc. to familiarize the older students with HS basketball. In addition, MS coaches will be coaching in a similar fashion this year.
Donations:
PCMS and PACE donation for extra baskets was discussed. Not enough information to act. Will get more information for the next meeting.
Motion made by Paul F. and seconded by Jill D. to adjourn. Motion carried.
Next meeting Nov. 5, 2008 at 7:00 pm in Social Studies Resource Center at the high school.
